Is 'Queen' more popular than the Queen?

Queen have made UK chart history by becoming the first act to sell six million copies of an individual album.

No—not that one, although Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11 certainly deserves an award. She's served her country since she took over the throne as a young woman. Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states, known as the Commonwealth realms, and their territories and dependencies, and head of the 53-member Commonwealth of Nations. Through the trauma over her 60 year reign, including the 'anus horriblus' after Princess Diana's death, she has worked steadfastly.  When I reach the age of 87, I wish I could spend so much time on my feet, listening, talking, and looking interested during tours of various businesses. That's dedication—maybe bordering on heroism.

The musical group Queen's first Greatest Hits collection, which includes the hits We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody, has extended its lead after being Britain's highest-selling album for several years. The Official Charts Company said one in three British families now owned a copy of the 1981 compilation.

The Official Charts Company said the album, which also features Another One Bites The Dust, Bicycle Race and Fat Bottomed Girls, regularly sells several thousand copies per week, particularly around Christmas.

Queen guitarist Brian May said the feat was "incredible". Brian Harold May CBE is an English musician, singer, songwriter and astrophysicist who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of Queen. He uses a home-built guitar, "Red Special".

I wrote a song for the Olympic Games held in London in 2012. Never managed to reach the right ears though. In my imagination, Brian May would sit on Buckingham Castle roof and play the opening tune. Dreams are all very well, but it takes a great band to reach success.

As a performer, lead singer Freddy Mercury, who died in 1991, was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. What a voice.

Although I didn't want to look at him in the 70s when my children were teenagers, I loved his voice. Fat Bottomed Girls & Bicycle would be blaring from my daughter Karen's bedroom, a converted second kitchen in our old cottage in Robe, South Australia. Karen would call me every time one of the Queen songs came over the radio. Those memories are precious to me since her death about 5 years ago.

I guess we all have memories of where we were and what we were doing when one of Queen's songs rose in the charts. Over the years, I appreciate the genius of Freddie Mercury's unique style and range even more. No wonder the songs Queen released have remained popular over the decades, and the Greatest Hits album has risen to become a classic.

I can recall when I first had the pleasure of hearing "Bohemian Rhapsody"- the vocal ranges and depth in that powerhouse melody are stunning and still is amazing to listen to again today.

Queen were such an iconic group! I absolutely love listening to their music (as does my Dad)- utter brilliance!
