Don't be fooled with e-cigarettes.

PictureOld advertisement.
In the UK, a woman will appear to smoke in a TV advert for the first time tonight since it was banned in 1965. E-cigarettes, also known as personal vaporizers or electronic nicotine-delivery systems are battery-powered devices that release a vapor containing nicotine but no tobacco.

Why do people use them? Who knows what the appeal is. They were originally produced to help people quit smoking or give a healthier alternative to tobacco. The argument for e-cigarettes is that they don't contain the toxic byproducts found in cigarettes, such as tar, and don't produce smoke (therefore no smell or stains). Although the demand for electronic cigarettes is booming, experts are still not convinced they work.

Apart from that, the devices have been linked to more than 100 fires in the UK in less than three years with dozens of incidents suspected to have been sparked by e-cigarettes or related equipment including chargers.

Health campaigners are furious about the relaxation of rules on e-cigarettes and fear the 20-second clip of the woman will “sexualise and glamorise” the use of the nicotine devices.

After a 50 year absence, TV audiences will see someone exhale what appears to be cigarette smoke on an ad. It is actually vapor.

Surely this will encourage gullible people to start smoking.

Nicotine addiction is said to be one of the worst. I beg people not to entertain the thought of taking up the habit.

My husband started smoking real cigarettes when he was about 14, just after the second world war. He's smoked now for over 60 years and has been using a nicotine inhalator for 2 years in an attempt to cut down on his cigarettes. Hopeless! Even with the health authority's help and constant assessment, he can't give up his addiction. When he came home from a 2 day stay in hospital, his behavior was erratic, frantic, uncontrollable, having been without cigarettes during his internship.

Frankly, we can't afford his habit, the cost of which is £6 ($9.50) a day for one packet. But he can't live without them.

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

I stopped smoking about 2 years ago now, these were around at the time and people tried to talk me in to using them but I hate the things. They are expensive and just as addictive!

It is all down to the fact someone has to want to quit to do I think, there is no point trying to quit to please someone else or because someone is telling you to do it.

Cigarettes killed my mother and I took a vow, at age 12, that I would never start using tobacco. I think e cigarettes are just plain wrong on so many levels. I'm sharing this post on social media. I am so sorry about your husband. I have read that nicotine is more addictive than heroin or crack. Based on the struggles of people I know, I can believe it.

I agree nicotine is a terrible habit! My brother has been smoking for nearly 50 years, and he said it was easier to quit cocaine cold turkey than it has been to quit nicotine. Thankfully, I've never been lured by the nasty habit.

I have a friend who actually designs the e-cigarettes. As far as I'm concerned, they're just a fancy version of a bad habit LOL

I am so glad I never started smoking in the first place - and I'm thankful my hubby finally kicked his 30-year+ habit last year! He used a product called "Nic-Out" (just in case anyone wants to check it out: www.carolwrightgifts.com/personal-care/health-products/nic-out-cigarette-filters-as-seen-on-tv/80675.cfm) that is a filter tip you add to the mouth end of the cigarette. It helped him quit in relatively short time. And I've told him he's MUCH sexier without cigarettes hanging out of his mouth and smelling like tobacco! ;-)

There are those that are similar to the regular cigarette’s flavor so that adjusting to the swap would be easy for the user. A long list is accessible for all interested individuals. You can change the flavors depending on your taste.
