Pity I didn't read that news item. I didn't see the phenomenon, or feel at all volatile.
Media has linked the full moon to crime, mental illness, suicide, disasters, accidents, fertility, and werewolves, among other things. Numerous studies have tried to find lunar effects. So far, the studies have failed to establish a connection, with many experts denying any outcome at all. Lunar effects that have been found have little or nothing to do with human behavior.
Yet, during the so-called lunar effect, police employ extra officers, and hospital staff note a rise in accidents, violent incidents and psychiatric admissions.
After this weekend's full moon, larger and brighter than any other throughout the year, the Perseids meteor shower will follow.
A leading astrologer with 30 years of experience, expected the emergency services to be out in full force. He anticipated explosive effects felt worldwide due to the super full moon.
Babies and animals are sensitive to this effect in the lunar cycle. The alteration in the tides could be the reason why our behavior may change during this period.
A researcher in Aerospace Engineering at Bristol University said the super full moon will appear about 7% larger and about 15% brighter than average. "The super moon refers to a position in the moon's orbit when it is closest to the Earth," he added. "Sometimes this super moon coincides with the phase of the full moon. We call this a 'super full moon'."
The Moon is drifting about two inches further away from the Earth every year, so theoretically no super full moon will ever be as magnificent again.
Did you see it? Was anyone around you behaving in a peculiar way?
And, more importantly, did you feel strange?
